Under the direction of the Smilow Lab Coordinators and Lab Manager, demonstrates the ability to perform a wide variety of routine technical moderate and high complexity procedures in the Smilow offsite laboratory. Demonstrates good time management and organizational skills; interprets data based on knowledge and experience. Evaluates, troubleshoots and solves routine operational and instrument problems. Participates in quality control, quality assurance initiatives and equipment maintenance programs throughout the Smilow offsite lab. Reports to the coordinator problems that occur in the processing

Responsibilities - 1. Technical Competency- Demonstrates technical competency by performing a variety of techniques and procedures involved in the Smilow offsite locations. These include moderate and high complexity tests.
- 1.1 Determines acceptability of samples and enters patient information correctly into the laboratory information system as needed. Is proficient with aliquoting skills as needed, specimen volume requirements, sample storage requirements, anticoagulation assessment and specimen processing to other labs requirements. Competency is evaluated through direct observation, external (and internal blind samples as necessary) proficiency samples and record review.
- 2. Instrument Skills- Demonstrates sufficient knowledge and skills to independently operate, maintain and troubleshoot all instrumentation in a Smilow offsite laboratory.
- 2.1 Performs instrument maintenance according to schedule including documentation, within established time limits.
- 3. General Skills and Knowledge- Performs tasks that assist with the overall operation of laboratory service according to laboratory policies and in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- 3.1 Ensures adequate supplies are available for testing at assigned workbench. Ability to review needs of the workbench and perform necessary functions to ensure patient testing is completed without interruption.
- 4. Professional Skills- Participates in activities that demonstrate professionalism, a commitment to competency and career growth.
- 4.1 Participates in the teaching/orientation activities for new employees and others as needed. Communicates effectively and maintains a positive, respectful, interpersonal relationship with learners.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent with MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent or eligible.
EXPERIENCE
One (1) to two (2) years' experience in an accredited Clinical Laboratory.
LICENSURE
ASCP certification highly desired.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Working knowledge of equipment, instrumentation and materials used in a Core Clinical Laboratory. Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner with outpatient clinical staff. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to work as a member of a team is essential. Possess a high level off knowledge and skill with working laboratory information systems.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Must be able to lift 30 pound cubes of reagents as needed.
