Under the supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Manager and/or Chief Technologist, and the direction of the staff technologist, performs all duties that support patient care. These duties include direct and indirect patient care activities, which are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients and their families. All duties are performed according to departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Demonstrates outstanding customer service and the key behaviors outlined in the Hospital 's Core Success Factors in all interactions. To meet the staffing needs of the department, as necessary, MRI staff may be assigned at any of the YNHH MRI locations , regardless of your regularly assigned work location.

Responsibilities
- 1. 1.Following established procedures, completes routine interviews and patient screenings to obtain required patient data and demographic information that will assist the technologist in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient needs for the specific diagnostic imaging exam or procedure. 1.1 Interviews patients, collects and documents data collected on appropriate forms. 1.2 Ensures information is communicated to technologist verbally or in writing prior to the start of the specific imaging exam or procedure. 1.3 Accurately completes routine patient screenings and provides basic information to patients/families regarding section-specific exam or procedure. 1 .4 For MRI section only: Competently performs MR safety screening of patients. 2.Functions as a member of the care team to support the set up and preparation of patients undergoing radiology procedures. Has knowledge of exams and preps in order to facilitate patient flow through the section. 2.1 Determines, prepares and set up supplies and equipment required for exam or procedure. 2.2 Prepares patients for exams by obtaining specimens, taking vital signs and measurements, positioning patients, etc. 2.3 Provides basic explanation of routine imaging exams and section specific procedures to patients and families within established parameters. 2.4 For CT section only: Coordinates administration of oral contrast and timing of subsequent imaging 3.Properly locates patients' records and enters important patient data and demographic information into the IDX and PACS systems. Respects patient confidentiality at all times and adheres to all HIPAA requirements as established by the section, department and hospital. 3.1 Locates appropriate electronic medical record and patient information required for exam, scans and attaches documents to the record. 3.2 Enters required patient data or demographic information into system 3.3 Recognizes and reports potential problems, unusual circumstances and errors in patients' records or orders, to the Manager or Chief Technologist. 4.Assists in managing patient flow within the unit by organizing patient care responsibilities, and communicating and interacting with patients, families and staff in an effective and professional manner to ensure that the goals of the department and hospital are met and that the operation runs efficiently . 4.1 Utilizes knowledge of timing and sequence of imaging exams within section to organize and prioritize patient care in a timely manner. 4.2 Provides prompt and courteous response to meet the needs of patients, families and visitors. 5.Provides environmental support to Diagnostic Imaging section to ensure efficiency in the delivery of patient care. 5.1 Assists in maintaining cleanliness of work area and equipment, stock imaging rooms with supplies and clean linens, disposes of soiled laundry. 6.Maintains clinical competency in areas of responsibility and participates in sectional and departmental activities that promote a cohesive section and department. 6.1 Successfully completes all mandatory and unit-based continuing education classes. 6.2 Attends and participates in staff meetings. If unable to attend, accepts responsibility for reading minutes or following up with Manager or staff in attendance to remain abreast of all activities of unit . 6.3 Assumes responsibility for continued learning and skill development by discussing with Chief Technologist and/or Manager, setting appropriate goals, and following through to meet those goals. 7. Orders imaging/patient care supplies in a timely manner so as to assure a continuation of smooth and efficient services in the imaging area. 7.1 Follows established par levels for unit's imaging/patient care supplies; places orders and restocks supplies in a timely manner. 8. Qualifications
EDUCATION
A minimum of a high school graduate. Successful completion of a certified nurse aide program, a patient care training program or current enrollment in accredited radiology program or other related fields in healthcare preferred . Medical terminology and computer courses is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Either (A) one to two years relevant patient care experience preferred; such as current enrollment in a radiology program -OR- (B) A graduate of a certified training program that includes, but is not limited to, Certified Nurse Aide , Phlebotomy or EKG, EEG, Emergency Medical Technician, Operating Room Technician, or an Associates Degree in a health care field.
LICENSURE
Current (BLS) Basic Life Support/ CPR or ability to successfully complete training within 6 months of hire.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR or ability to successfully complete training within 6 months of hire . Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with patient, families, peers, and supervisor. Ability to understand and follow specific written and verbal instructions and procedures. Basic math skills. Beginner level computer skills to operate PC in a windows environment, with ability to learn and demonstrate competency in basic data entry/data retrieval in electronic patient records and/or patient supply systems utilized within unit. Ability to learn and demonstrate competency in basic patient screening and patient care procedures within specialty area, according to established protocols. Ability to prioritize and adjust work plans based on the needs of the patient, the section, and the Radiology team. Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Ability to perform tasks of physical endurance and dexterity as required by placement. Consistent use of proper body mechanics.
